Latest update from David and Melody:
Dear Prayer Warriors,
Spring is towards the end here, and the rainy season will be here in two to threee weeks. We are rejoicing over the work that the two workers from Ohio have done. Ray and Joshua willingly worked 13 to 15 hour days in order to put in a new base plywood flooring. They also finished the room divisions, for which we are rejoicing. And they helped with much of the plumbing jobs. They were a tremendous help and a great blessing to us and to the church folks here.
Now we have another group of 10 workers from a church in Alabama, who found out about us through the BMM home office (thank you!), that would like to come at the end of June. There is still alot of work to be done in the new building. One problem is that we have used up all the funds due to extra expense with the well drilling when they hit hard clay and rock. The price of lumber has also doubled since last fall when we were giving those figures to our churches. The electrician also used up more than we had hoped in bringing the wiring into the building, even though he gave us a significant discount, so we are in great need of funds in order to make use of their offer to help us.
Remaining work to be done:
cement work for stairs and or ramp to lead into the building which stands almost 2 feet from the ground
Interior walls with insulation & drywall to be added onto the outer inside walls, which it was determined are too thin for winter cold and summer heat.
mudding and painting need to be done
finished flooring, either carpet, linnoleum or otherwise needs to be laid in all of the rooms - the auditorium, the offices and S.S. area, the kitchen and fellowship rooms, and the restrooms.
the renting of ground equipment, such as a backhoe, to finish up the exterior so that it can be used for further parking, etc.
kitchen units - stove, sink, countertop and cabinets
refrigerator
vacuum cleaner
air conditioning/heating units for all rooms. The temp often goes above 100 degrees farenheit in the summertime here, and is very sultry in August coming out of the rainy season. Winter gets down to 20 degrees farenheit. There is no central heating or air conditioning, just seperate units per room.
church sign
chairs, about 50, are needed
PA system, video projector
We are hoping and praying to get all of the basic inside and outside work done for another $20,000. Please pray to see if God would have you to help finish this work. We are so grateful for those of you who helped us come this far. We could not have done so without your help. You have been such a blessing and an encouragement to us.
In spite of some of the setbacks, the church folks would like to start having meetings in the unfinished building from May 21st. Please pray with us toward this end.
Some came with us yesterday afternoon to help clean one of the rooms so that we could at least meet in that room. One of the 5 yr olds also got involved with the ater bucket trying to help wash the wood floor and the outside wall. He finally said, I think I just want to play with the water, so we gave him a small bucket and a rag to play with outside, and by the time we were done cleaning that small room, he was thoroughly soaked and very muddy.
Paul has asked that we announce his engagement to Megan Vesper. They are to be married July 28th at Tri-county Baptist Church in West Chester, OH, near Cincinnati. Megan is a wonderful gal, and we already feel she is part of the family.Paul will be finishing up his last few classes in the masters program at the conservatory this fall, and Megan is waiting to be accepted into nurse's training soon.
Thank you again for your faithful prayers and support on our behalf. God is going to do a great work here in China New Town! God bless each of you!
In Christ's service,
David and Melody Yoshida
